WELCOME CORPS
Sponsoring Refugees. Strengthening Communities.

We are very pleased that a local group of friends and neighbors has approached us to help them sponsor a political refugee (possibly accompanied by a child) through the U.S. State Department’s new Welcome Corps.

Sponsorship involves supporting a family as they settle in by first finding a place for them to live, and then guiding the family through securing healthcare, finding work, enrolling in school, arranging for childcare, and generally learning how to navigate life in our country. The first major hurdle will be finding a place to live. The group is currently asking for any help or advice that anyone can offer in this search. Affordable and safe housing, within a 20-minute drive from the Hopewell/Princeton area is needed.  Other areas in the search include Ewing, Trenton, West and East Windsor, Hightstown, and Montgomery Township.  A place to live that is accessible by public transportation would be ideal but not a requirement.
 
If you know of someone who has an available apartment they may be willing to donate or if you know of a landlord willing to rent such an apartment at an affordable price, short- or long-term, please email us at hoperisesup@gmail.com and we will put you in touch with the organizers. Please be sure to put "Welcome Corps" in the subject line of your email. The space could be a traditional apartment, or more of an “in-law” suite in a private home, with a separate entrance and kitchen.  If rent is required, the sponsor group will secure rent money, so funds would be guaranteed.  They expect to be in need of this space in the Fall.
 
Donations in any amount are welcome at any time to contribute to the housing costs and the newcomers’ basic needs and can be made via Paypal here, or you may mail a check to the address below.   Be sure to write Welcome Corps in the memo line of your check.  Hope Rises Up is a 501c3 charity, and all donations are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.
